The International Society of Minimally Invasive and Virtual Surgery (ISMIVS, previously known as International Society of Minimally Invasive and Noninvasive Medicine) was founded in July 2013 at the gala of the 1st Yangtze International Summit of Minimally Invasive and Noninvasive Medicine in Chongqing, China. ISMIVS envisions to accelerating the progress in minimally invasive and noninvasive medicine by promoting research, education, communication, and international collaboration.

The Personality in the Medical Education World 医学教育界的大人物
From the July issue of our ISMIVS Newsletter, we would like to introduce some pioneers in the field of minimally-invasive and noninvasive medicine. They are not only prestigious in their field but also willing to share their experience and ideas with younger doctors, hence making a great contribution to medical education. In this issue, we are going to introduce Prof. Felix Wong and share with you a video on his outpatient HIFU theatre in Hong Kong.

Prof. Felix Wong is a Conjoint Professor of the University of New South Wales (UNSW). He specialises in the area of gynaecological oncology, endoscopy, women’s health, and hospital administration. His research interests are in gynaecological cancer, endoscopy, and alternative medicine. He is dedicated to the promotion and popularization of medical technologies and thus a familiar mentor and friend among gynecological endoscopists especially in China and Asia-Pacific regions.
黄胡信教授曾任澳大利亚新南威尔士大学妇产科教授和悉尼利物浦医院妇女健康部主任 18 年,现任新南威尔士大学妇产科客座教授。专长于妇产科肿瘤学、内镜手术、妇女健康和医院管理,研究兴趣是妇科癌症、内镜和替代医学。一直致力于医学技术的推广和普及,是中国及亚太地区妇科内镜医师们熟知的良师益友。
Prof. Wong is renowned for his contribution to medical education in Asia Pacific Countries. He made up to 10 overseas every year to Asia Pacific countries. In recognition of his contributions to teaching, he received many awards and honours. In 2009, he received the Endos Award in Medical Science and Technology, China for his excellent achievement in Endoscopic surgery. In 2017, he was granted Lin Qiaozhi Cup by Chinese Obstetricians and Gynecologists Association (COGA) in recognition of his significant contribution to the field of obstetrics and gynecology in China. In 2017, he was honoured by Lifetime Achievements Award by Asia-Pacific Association for Gynecologic Endoscopy and Minimally Invasive Therapy (APAGE). In 2017, he was awarded by European Society for Gynecological Endoscopy (ESGE) for Excellent Contribution Award. He is currently the Chairman of China-Asia Pacific Association of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Oncologists (CA-AMIGO) and Foundation Chairman of China-Australia-Asia Pacific Forum of Minimally Invasive Surgery and Vice President of World Association of Chinese Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
黄胡信教授因其对医学教育的贡献而闻名,为亚太地区及国家的医师提供每年 10 余个在澳大利亚学习深造的机会;帮助 30 余位中国妇产科内镜医师前往利物浦医院进行 3~6 个月的培训;组织了 20 多期有中国卫生官员、医院院长等参加的医院管理学习班。因其对医学教育的贡献而获得了众多奖励和荣誉:2009 年荣获中国恩德思医学科学技术杰出成就奖,2017 年荣获中国医师协会妇产科医师分会(COGA)林巧雅杯奖,2017 年获亚太妇产科内视镜暨微创治疗医学会(APAGE)颁发终身成就奖。2017 年荣获欧洲妇科内镜学会(ESGE)卓越贡献奖,现任中国亚太地区微创妇科肿瘤学会主席、中国-澳洲-亚太地区妇科微创手术论坛创会主席、世界华人妇产科医师协会副会长。
Prof. Wong had edited 14 medical books and had published more than 200 papers in local and international journals. He retired from the university in 2010. Despite he has had distinguished endoscopic experience, he has now moved to Hong Kong for private practice. He continues to contribute towards the development of HIFU education and services in China and Asia Pacific Areas.
主编医学著作 14 部, 发表论文 200 余篇。2010 年,他从澳大利亚新南威尔士大学提前退休,回香港私人执业,继续为高强度聚焦超声(HIFU)技术教育和服务的发展做出贡献。

ISMIVS launching its online training program
国际微无创医学会培训课程上线中
The International Society of Minimally Invasive and Virtual Surgery is pleased to announce the availability of a series of online training courses on the clinical application of noninvasive focused ultrasound therapy. A variety of courses related with ultrasound-guided high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) ablation of uterine fibroids will enlighten doctors about the physics and biological effect of HIFU, case screening, clinical protocol, anesthesia plan, nursing care, etc. In the meantime, more courses on focused ultrasound therapy of other diseases will be uploaded in the future, please follow us on www.ismivs.org for what you are interested in.

The 8th Sino-European Gynecological Endoscopy Summit:
Conference of ESGE in Asia-Pacific Region
第八届中欧妇科内镜高峰论坛暨 ESGE 亚太区域性会议
To promote the development of minimally invasive surgeries and facilitate the pround communiction among medical professionals, the 8th Sino-European Gynecological Endoscopy Summit: Conference of ESGE in Asia-Pacific Region held by the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University is taking place from August 27 to October 30, 2020. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this conference takes place both online and offline. Lectures by speakers of different places are delivered at where the speakers are and broadcasted live through Internet. About 200 experts from home and abroad are discussing current hot and difficult issues in gynecological endoscopic surgeries and tumor therapies and doing surgery demonstration.
为更好地推动妇科微创手术的发展,促进业界深入广泛交流,由中山大学附属第一医院主办的“第八届中欧妇科内镜高峰论坛(ESGE)于 2020 年 8 月 27 日至 10 月 30 日召开,受疫情影响,本次会议采用线上线下相结合的方式举办,讲课专家在专家所在地进行线上或线下授课,并进行网络直播,近 200 名国内外妇科内镜领域顶尖专家学者将针对当前妇科内镜与肿瘤治疗的相关热点和难点问题进行专题兼做和手术演示。

AI-aided laparoscope-holder robots to make laparoscopic surgery more accurate
人工智能持镜机器人让腔镜手术更精准
To improve the efficiency of laparoscopic surgery, laparoscope-holder robots have been introduced as a replacement for the assistant surgeon because of their advantages in precise positioning, fast tracking, stable movement, and being free of interference of emotion and fatigue. Although the foot pedal and speech recognition modes of HCI have been developed and widely applied in laparoscope-holder robots, they are “passive-controlled,” where they need to receive direct commands from the surgeon to operate; therefore, they inevitably distract the surgeon in surgeries.
机器人具有定位精度高、响应速度快、运动平稳性强等优势,且不受情绪及疲劳等因素影响,为腹腔镜手术中持镜手所面临的问题提供了一种有效的解决方案,可为主刀医生提供稳定的手术视野,辅助主刀医生高效地完成腹腔镜手术。腹腔镜手术中,持镜机器人通过脚踏或语言识别等人机交互接口被动接收主刀医生指令调节腹腔镜位姿,因此不可避免的会分散主刀医生手术中的注意力。
The research team led by Xin Gao, Suzhou Institute of Biomedical Engineering and Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences has innovatively developed a marker-free surgical instrument tracking framework for active-control of laparoscope-holder robots based on object extraction via deep learning (DL) and a segmentation model. Compared with the existing marker-free surgical instrument tracking framework, the object extraction via DL-based marker-free tracking framework proposed by Xin's team can achieve more accurate and faster tracking of marker-free surgical instruments, providing important guiding signifcance for the application of laparoscope-holder robots in laparoscopic surgeries.
中国科学院苏州生物医学工程技术研究所高欣团队尝试人工智能赋能持镜机器人,借助深度学习方法,融合区域分割思想与目标搜索策略,提出了一种新型的全自动无标记手术器械视觉追踪方法。研究团队所提方法相比于现有的无标记手术器械视觉追踪方法,追踪精度更高、追踪速度更快、定位误差更小。该项研究为持镜机器人视觉追踪模块提供了一种新的研发思路,并将助力临床实施精准微创外科手术,对精准医学的长远发展具有重要指导意义。

HIFU for the treatment of difficult colorectal liver metastases with unsuitable indications for
resection and radiofrequency ablation: a phase I clinical trial
HIFU 治疗不适合切除和射频消融的难治性结直肠癌肝转移:I 期临床试验
HIFU treatment was performed in 13 patients with colorectal liver metastases (CRLM) but were contraindicated for resection and radiofrequency ablation.The median follow-up period was 25 months. The 2-year progression-free survival (PFS) was 16.7%, and the median PFS was 9 months. Notably, the 2-year overall survival (OS) was 77.8%, and the median OS was 25 months. This study indicates that the HIFU treatment is safe, is able to achieve a good tumor response rate and long-term prognosis even when the foci were in high-risk locations, and should be considered for patients who were considered unsuitable for other local treatments.
该研究纳入了 13 位不适合切除和射频消融治疗的难治性结直肠癌肝转移患者。HIFU 术后,中位随访时间长达 25 个月,两年无疾病进展生存率(PFS)为 16.7%,中位无疾病进展生存期为 9 个月。值得一提的是,两年整体生存率为 77.8%,中位整体生存期为 25 个月。该研究表明,HIFU 治疗难治性结直肠癌肝转移是有效的,即使病灶处于高危部位,也能达到良好的肿瘤客观有效率和长期预后,不适合其他局部治疗的结直肠癌肝转移患者可考虑 HIFU 治疗。

On 24 July, 2019, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), UK, published guidance and evidence-based recommendations on ultrasound-guided high-intensity transcutaneous focused ultrasound for symptomatic uterine fibroids in adults.
2019 年 7 月 24 日,英国国家卫生和护理卓越研究所(NICE)发布有关超声引导下高强度经皮聚焦超声治疗成人症状性子宫肌瘤的介入手术指南及询证建议(指南编号为 IPG657)。
